JOSEPHINE DUNKWU Obituary

Josephine was born on November 29, 1929, to the Obi Onyemenam of Asaba and Nwakecha Okocha. She was the fourth of five children. She had the most unusual eyes with hazel etched and grey ring around each pupil.   As extraordinary as that was, Josephine was an ordinary woman, mother, and wife. She was known as Jojo, and Mama, by some. Josephine was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Training College and the University of Lagos. She loved to teach and mentored so many young people. She was a geography teacher and sports coach at Mary Wood Girls Secondary School, and later school Principle at St Paul Primary School.  She retired after 45 years of teaching, during which time she received many awards for her extraordinary contributions to education and sports. Her volleyball team won many competitions and was loved by many despite being labeled, “Margaret Thatcher”.

Josephine was married to Bennet Dunkwu and had 5 children.

Mama was a comedian and a fun person to be with. She always had the family in good spirits even in hard times. Mama was one of the most generous people we knew. Even when she was sick, she was still giving even until her death on January 5, 2020.

We will miss her dearly and it is our desire that her generous spirit will continue in us.

Safe journey, Mama.
