John Monahan Obituary

On November 27, 2023 John Monahan passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Carmichael, California.

His deeds and devotion as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and noted Mercedes-Benz shop owner and community leader throughout his lifetime are worth remembering.

John was born on October 18, 1936. He was a devout Catholic and graduated with honors from Newton High School in Massachusetts.

After high school, John joined the Air Force. In 1955 John attended The College of Marin while serving in the Air Force.

John lived through many changes. The global population more than tripled during his lifetime. He grew up during a time before television and was proficient with a slide rule. When he learned to drive, gas was about 21 cents per gallon and plastic was virtually non-existent.

John met the love of his life Marjoie Darms at a Catholic dance in Sacramento.

They were married on May 12, 1990 in Sacramento.

John’s life at home revolved around rebuilding classic cars and selling them.

His love for his dog Seamus, a border collie, was evident to all who met them. John and his dog went on many walks and spent their evenings watching television together.

John is survived by his wife Marjorie Clara Monahan; sons Edward Monahan, Brian Monahan, Sean Monahan, and Daniel Darms; and daughter Charmaine Steele and her husband Michael Steele. John is also survived by his grandchildren Shaleena Reyersbach, David Reyersbach, Jennifer Monahan, and DanuShai Darms.

His family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Nurse Next Door and the caring doctors from the VA for their compassion.

The funeral will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on December 22nd at 1:30PM. The family will host a reception at their home following the ceremony in Carmichael, California.
